This Day In The Law: Russia’s “Emancipation Proclamation”
In the United States., Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation
Proclamation is, of course, well known. Less known in the U.S., but also of
interest, is that on February 19, 1861, Czar Alexander II promulgated the
Emancipation Manifesto, which abolished serfdom in Russia.
