Library Hours change

For the next several months, there will not be any Reference librarian available on Sundays.

If you are a member of the Hofstra community, attorney or judge, please use our email reference service - hofstralawlib@gmail.com.  A Reference librarian will respond to your question during Reference Desk hours.   Details are posted at the Reference desk.

Looking toward the 4th

I will be celebrating July 4th next Friday by finding a nice quiet place hiding from fireworks.

The Library will also be closed.

In my nice quiet spot, I will observe the 4th as I always do by reading the Declaration of Independence .  Sometimes, I also  like to visit the Library of Congress for more information on the Declaration.  For those of you more auditory historian/patriots try this YouTube video of actors reading the declaration (or for  NPR geeks).

Unofficial start of Summer ???

Despite the continued need for my virtual fur, this weekend is the unofficial start of Summer.  The good news is the beaches are ready.  (According to my brethren beach watchers on the South shore, anyway).  The bad news is finding a warm sunny spot to soak in some vitamin D will take some patience.

If you are looking for a good window sill to sun, or want to get some work done before the Summer weather actually arrives, the Library will be open this weekend, but on the limited schedule as follows:

Fri. 5/23 -   8-5p
Sat. 5/24 - 10-6p
Sun. 5/25 -10-6p  (no Reference librarian available)
Mon 5/26 - CLOSED - no swipe card access

Enjoy the weekend and your Memorial Day celebrations.

Welcome Back and Looking Ahead - MLK Day

A belated welcome back. I hope you enjoyed as many good naps over the break as I did. These snow storms really reinforce my pleasure in being a virtual cat and not having to deal with that cold wet stuff.

Looking ahead, although you will not be attending classes on Monday in honor of Martin Luther King Day, I will be prowling in the Library. You can get help from human beings both at the Circulation and Reference desks between 10am and 6pm. Outside of those hours you can access the Library through our 24/7 access point.

We will go back to our regular schedule on Tuesday. As always, you can check the Circulation desk hours and updated Reference desk hours on the Library's web site.

Planning for Turkey day

As you might imagine, we felines (even the virtual ones) are quite fond of the day you humans set aside to eat birds. (We just wonder why it is only once per year). Although we cats tend to be more spontaneous in our bird eating, we can respect your need to plan and to take time off to celebrate.

So, for your planning convenience, here are the Library and Reference librarian hours. As always, you can also find this information on the Library's web site .

24/7

So much for cat naps!! I will now be prowling the Library - along with some of you all night long. In other words, the Library has heard your requests and you can now access the Library 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

You must have your Hofstra ID to enter the 24/7 access door once the main doors are locked for the night. Also, in order to best ensure everyone's safety, you will be asked to leave at closing time and then you can swipe back in , should you wish to remain.

And if you do see me with my eyes closed - I am NOT NAPPING!!! I am meditating on Life, the Universe and Everything.

Have a great weekend - and make sure to go home and get some sleep!

Week in Review

It has been a great week-long nap.

Now that I have stretched, I see I have missed a few big events. First, Elena Kagan has been confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court and will be the fourth women to serve on the nation's highest bench. Get details and follow developments on SCOTUS Blog under Kagan Resources .

Of course the other big event I slept through this week is the California District Court decision on same sex marriage. You can read and download the opinion here .

Finally, closer to home, check the Reference Librarians' Hours calendar for next week's hours. We will be extending hours as Orientation for new students approaches.
