NYSBA Mobile Ethics App

The NYSBA recently launched a free Mobile Ethics app.  This new app features the full database of NYSBA’s 900 ethics opinions from 1964 to today. Users can search for opinions by keyword, by category or by opinion number.  Results provide users with a brief digest of the opinion to check for relevancy before clicking the full opinion.  The NYSBA Mobile Ethics App is available for iPhones through the App Store, for Android devices through the Android Marketplace and for Blackberry through the Blackberry App Market.  Click here for more information on the app.

Legal Ethics and Facebook

The Legal Ethics forum has an interesting post on lawyers, litigation and Facebook. The "friending" of adverse witnesses or lawyers in pending litigation have apparently become problematic issues. I'm guessing that we'll soon see much more discussion about professional misconduct and the use of Facebook (and other social networking sites) by lawyers.

National Organization of Bar Counsel

The National Organization of Bar Counsel is a good resource for finding information on legal ethics and professional conduct rules in the different states. The web site provides links to state disciplinary procedure rules, state ethics opinions, professional conduct rules, and state rules for admission. It is a great starting place for legal ethics research.

Multijurisdictional Practice

Attorney multijurisdictional practice is an increasingly important topic for attorneys. Thus, it is essential to be aware of topics such as, admission by motion, reciprocity, and pro hac vice admission. The web page of the ABA's Commission on Multijurisdictional Practice is a great place to start. The page includes ABA reports, recommendations and charts containing information on state rules. It is a very useful site!
