HeinOnline New Feature: QR Codes to View a Document

HeinOnline has recently announced a new feature with QR codes that will allow users to have the documents on their smartphone or tablet. All users have to do is quickly point the camera of the device at the HeinOnline Print/Download Options screen, and the document will be available on your smartphone or tablet.  Click here to learn more.

Triangle Factory Fire Online Exhibit

This impressive site is one of my favorites, especially around Labor Day. Created by Cornell University's ILR (Industrial and Labor Relations) School and the Cornell University Library, it brings to life the horrors of the New York City Triangle Factory fire that claimed 146 lives in 1911 and marked the beginning of New York's leadership role in worker protective legislation.  It features photos, interviews, and witness accounts of the fire, as well as the reports, speeches, and other documents from the reform movement it spurred--the movement that inspired the "transformation of the labor code of New York State" and led "to the adoption of fire safety measures that served as a model for the whole country."

Internet History Sourcebook Project: Medieval Legal History

This site, hosted by Fordham University, gathers references to online primary sources for historical documents, including the law.

The Medieval legal history page, in particular, provides links to primary sources in Roman, English, Germanic, Jewish, and Islamic law, among others. From the page devoted to the law of the Salian Franks, for instance, one learns that “if any person have wished to strike another with a poisoned arrow, and the arrow have glanced aside, and it shall be proved on him: he shall be sentenced to 2,500 denars, which make 63 shillings.”

ABA's 25 Greatest Law Novels

The ABA Journal frequently does a greatest fictional lawyers and best legal movies feature.  This year they have added the 25 greatest law novels as well.  The books are chosen by a panel of experts and are intended to provide the best portrayals of lawyers and the law in the world of literature.  This year's top 25 include the Ox-Bow Incident, The Fountainhead, Bleak House and more.  Click here for the entire top 25 list.

Returning 2Ls are diving into Constitutional Law textbooks as the semester begins.  Here's a good way to get out of the case book, see what some other Con Law professors are saying about the latest court decisions and other developments, and get some informational background and perspectives for class discussion: read Constitutional Law Prof Blog. The blog features posts written by Professors Steven Schwinn (John Marshall Law School, Chicago) and Ruthann Robson (CUNY School of Law), along with comments by other professors in the field and links to media commentary.  It is part of the Law Professor Blogs Network, "the nation's only network of legal blogs edited primarily by law professors." One or more blogs in the network may cover subjects of special interest to you.

I know how much you all love the Bluebook.  Who doesn't?

Now you can get a Bluebook app for your iPhone or iPad (not sure when Android will be available).  It is part of the Rulebook app libraries - which also includes court rules and the ABA  Model Rules.  The app is free but you have to pay to access the Bluebook ($39.99) and other titles (court rules $0.99 - $2.99; ABA Model Rules $24.99).
