Law School Learning Survey

The Law School Survey of Student Engagement (LSSSE) has just released its 2009 annual survey report, "Student Engagement in Law School: Enhancing Student Learning." Unlike well-known rankings and other studies, the LSSSE is dedicated to knowing and improving the quality of the law student learning experience. Law students at 82 schools, including Hofstra, completed the survey during the past year. The selected findings in the report focus on how current law students describe their engagement with the classroom learning environment, faculty feedback, and outside-class discussions with professors. The report also charts factors such as motivation, the relative value of various law student activities, changes in employment expectations and interests, and the impact of technology and of law school debt. Before Spring Semester begins in earnest, check it out.

Advanced Lexis/Westlaw workshops

Start off the new semester with an advantage - attend a Library workshop on advanced Lexis/Westlaw techniques. We will introduce you to advanced Shepards and KeyCite features, key number searching on Westlaw and searching within a search as well as when to use the different connectors.

As an added bonus, all students attending may enter two raffles for 600 points from Lexis and Westlaw, respectively – generously donated by our representatives - as an added enticement for you to attend.

The workshops will be held during the following dates and times. No need to sign up, just bring your Lexis and Westlaw passwords, and laptop, where indicated. All students are welcome. First years, please note this is different than training for Appellate Advocacy. These workshops will cover searching in any subject area, not just techniques and databases for Appellate Advocacy.

Tired Of Plain, Old Google?

If so, then try a different version of Google, just for fun. Google Elmer Fudd offers the familiar search engine’s home page “translated” into the dialect of cartoon legend Bugs Bunny’s favorite nemesis, Elmer Fudd.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Whoa! What an amazing nap!!! Straight through to 2010.

The Library is now open for prowling - both yours and mine - although the hours are shorter. As always, check the Library's web site for our hours and the Reference Librarians' Hours page for when you will find someone at the Reference desk.

Regular hours (and prowling) resume on Sunday, January 10.
