Wilderness.net
What better way for a Virtual Library Cat to spend a quiet, snowy Saturday but in a warm corner by the reference librarian? One of my favorite discoveries between catnaps was Wilderness.net. This website gem, a collaboration of university and other wilderness research institutes, includes a gallery of wonderful photos to search, browse, enlarge, and even download as high resolution images. But it is also home to the "Wilderness Law Library," a collection of U.S. legislation keyed to specific wilderness areas. This is the place to find regulations and other agency-specific and topical resources, Congressional research reports, articles, links to other wilderness sites, historical timelines, statistics, wilderness area descriptions, and maps, all in one well organized and integrated collection. Enjoy it just to browse or plan outdoor adventures--then bookmark it as a great source for legal research.

The EPA Website
Looking for information about environmental law? Take a look at the website of the Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA website is filled with all types of information including guidance documents and regulatory information. It also has a list of laws and executive orders that influence environmental protection.
It is a great place to start researching environmental law.

The Earth Portal
Self-described as a comprehensive resource for timely, objective, science-based information about the environment, the Earth Portal was selected as one of Library Journal's "Best Free Reference" web sites of 2008. The Earth Portal covers the natural environment of the earth as broadly defined, from air and water to living organisms and interdisciplinary topics, including related law and policy. All content is governed by the Environmental Information Coalition (EIC), a group of scientists and scholars and the institutions and agencies for which they work. Well organized and easy to navigate, the site consists of three components: the Encyclopedia of the Earth (with a great topical browse feature); Earth Forum (commentary and discussion); and Earth News (international in scope). For environmental law background or personal interest, this is a great place to start.
