For discussion of rather unusual legal situations, check out "Law and the Multiverse: Superheroes, Super villains and the Law". Federal Database for Safety Complaints

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recently launched a public database that allows users to report and search safety complaints for various products. The database allows people to file reports of injury or potential harm about household and other consumer products. The public database will then allow others to search these safety complaints if they themselves experienced similar problems or for further research when shopping for products. Although, many consider this a good government tool others claim it can cause problems of inaccuracy and issues for manufacturers. Read more about these issues at Law Technology News. To access and learn more about the database click here.

LLAGNY's "Bridge the Gap"Legal Research Program

Thinking about working as a summer associate or intern? Did you miss some of the Library's "Top 10" Legal Research Skills workshops? Here's another great chance to improve those research skills for summer success!

Each year, the Law Library Association of Greater New York (LLAGNY) sponsors a day-long program focusing on legal research skills, with the goal of easing the transition from law school to summer employment. This year's program will be held Friday, April 8, at New York Law School in Manhattan.

The day includes a general overview session on the research process and individual sessions with sample research issues created for three interest tracks: Corporate Securities; Litigation; and Public Service Practices. The afternoon panel of expert practitioners from different legal venues (firm, nonprofit, court, agency) will describe expectations for summer associates and offer advice. Breakfast, lunch, program materials, and a luncheon speaker on career development are all included for a bargain price of $40.00!

Registration forms and the program schedule are here, at the LLAGNY web site. Hofstra Law students also should have received an email about the event, with instructions for registering after April 1. Forms and information are also available at the Reference Desk.

Stress Reduction-Lobby for your favorite pet

The newest trend in law student stress reduction is happening at the Yale Law School Library. As first reported in Above the Law, students can "check out" a dog (a real one, not virtual) to pet, pamper and enjoy the health benefits of pet companionship. Listen to fellow law students on NPR talk about the benefits.

So, what about a cat (the furry variety, not just yours truly)???

Help us establish similar stress reduction opportunities for students. Chime in and send a comment with your views.
